Another late winter, another J.D. Robb book, this time Innocent in Death. An entirely harmless school teacher has been poisoned, and while the solution seems to be at his exclusive private school, Eve has a hard time getting a handle on the case. It doesn’t help that she’s gotten tied in knots over an ex-lover of Roarke’s, for the first time.
I do like that Robb continues to explore Eve & Roarke’s marriage, putting stresses on it and exploring how they react. This particular situation also has a nice thematic relationship to the main mystery—which is perhaps a touch over the top, but still good fun. One of the better installments in the series, I’m inclined to say at the moment.

So you weren’t squicked by the murderer? I read one review that said this wouldn’t go on the reread list for that reason.
Elaine: nah. As I said, I thought it was a bit over the top, but plausible within the confines of the book. I’m sure people’s mileage will vary considerably on this, though.
I read every …In Death book as it comes out. I was very pleased with this one – I didn’t have to skim through quite as many sex scenes. Not that I’m a prude – it just gets tiresome after a while. The other thing I appreciated was that the solution wasn’t completely apparent to me too early in the book, an issue I’ve had with a few of the ones preceeding Innocent.
I really do have to remember to visit here more often, I so enjoy it everytime I do.
uh, that was me posting above – I don’t know what I forgot to do that would have identified me, sorry!
Dawno: yeah, I find the sex scenes repetitive and not very interesting myself, though I skip them with such regularity that I don’t even notice how often I’m doing it.
I think I got the killer shortly after Eve started hinting at it, but not before, so that was nice. I spotted the one in _Memory_ almost immediately.
